Major Sixth Intervals

A major sixth is the distance from any note to a note nine half-steps away either ascending or descending. It is a consonant interval.

Playing major sixths on the guitar requires using the pick to strike the low note and the second finger to strike the high note. Strike the low note with a downward motion and strike the high note with an upward motion, as if you are trying to pinch the strings.

Alternatively, major sixths can be played by stretching from the first finger to the fourth finger as in the following example.
